Haven
Your privacy, in plain words.
Therapy only works if you can be honest. Here is exactly what happens to what you write.
What we keep
Your sessions with Dr. Ellis, the recaps she writes afterwards, your mood check-ins, journal entries, the areas you chose to work on, your appointments, and your billing status. Nothing else.
Who can read it
You. And a therapist only if you invite them by email and they accept, or they invite you and you accept. You can stop that sharing at any moment from the Therapist page, and they lose access immediately.
Our team cannot browse your sessions. Access to the database is restricted to the account that owns each row.
What we never do
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your conversations to train anyone's AI model. Your writing is sent to the AI provider only to generate the reply you are waiting for, and is not stored for training.
Messages and video with your therapist
Messages between you and your therapist are stored in Haven and can be read only by the two of you. Email alerts say only that a message arrived — never what it says.
Video sessions run on Jitsi Meet, a free third-party video service. Haven does not record or store video or audio. Each room has a private, hard-to-guess link that only you and your therapist see. The free service is not certified under US health-privacy law (HIPAA); we plan to move to a certified provider as Haven grows.
Emails we send
Sign-in and password emails, session reminders (a day and an hour before a booking) and new-message alerts, from notify.haventherapy.care. Nothing promotional.
Payments
Card details never touch Haven. Payment is handled by Stripe, who only tell us whether your plan is active.
Your location
Haven never asks for your location and never stores it. The urgent help numbers are chosen from your device's own clock setting, which stays on your device, and you can switch to another country yourself at any time.
Deleting everything
On the Account page, "Close my account" cancels your plan and permanently deletes your sessions, recaps, journal, moods and appointments. It cannot be undone.
You can also delete things one at a time as you go: a journal entry, a mood check-in or a session from your Sessions list. If you'd rather we removed something for you, write to us and we will.
The limits of this app
Haven is not a licensed clinician, does not diagnose or prescribe, and is not a crisis service. If you are in danger, use the urgent help page.
